ESA Logistika: Behind the wheel of Europen operations at LOGISTEED Group
It is not quite common for a Czech logistics company to be the most successful in the European part of a global corporation. And there are even fewer cases where the top manager of such an entity is also the one who sets the direction for the development of the entire European division. This makes it all interesting to follow such a case up close with Marek Cvacka, CEO of ESA Logistika, who is the leader of the European division of the international LOGISTEED Ltd. Group and also a member of the wider management of the LOGISTEED Group. Today, this logistics group operates on four continents – in America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
But first things first. ESA Logistika was founded in 1992 and developed dynamically as a private logistics company, with the Japanese HITACHI Transport Systems company acquiring a majority stake in 2007. This made ESA Logistika part of a global corporation under Japanese management and gave it the opportunity to actively participate in large projects with a pan-European and global reach. When the world’s leading investment company KKR bought HITACHI Transport Systems in 2023 and renamed it LOGISTEED Ltd., ESA Logistika was already one of its most advanced companies outside Japan, and the largest and most commercially successful company on the European continent. Marek Cvacka, who joined ESA Logistika in 2016 from the DANONE group (when he moved from the client side to the logistics provider), became the logical leader of the European division and one of the key managers of the entire Overseas division at LOGISTEED Ltd. as the CEO of ESA Logistika.

“Similar to ESA Logistika, which is among the leaders in logistics within the CEE region, LOGISTEED also wants to be among the TOP 20 in Europe in the near future,” says Marek Cvacka, continuing: “The many years of experience of our people, proven know-how, broad portfolio of services and customers, and historical footprint in much of Central and Eastern Europe make ESA Logistika the driving force behind the European division of LOGISTEED.” However, it is not the case that ESA Logistika is riding the wave of corporate customers acquired from its other European partners in the group. “LOGISTEED mainly serves Japanese customers in Europe, and we, on the other hand, are trying to expand our customer portfolio to countries where our partners can offer them the services they require,” explains Marek Cvacka. ESA Logistika is the company with the most comprehensive range of services in the entire European LOGISTEED Group, from warehousing to refrigerated logistics, e-shop services, and air and sea freight forwarding. It also passes on its know-how to its sister companies abroad so that they can offer these services to their customers and existing ESA Logistika customers in their markets. In these cases, the aim is to simplify communication for customers as much as possible. Therefore, if they use LOGISTEED services in several countries, they are in contact with only one logistics company acting as a communication hub.
In addition, LOGISTEED is constantly looking for various market niches where the group could leverage its European and global infrastructure and many years of experience. In this respect, too, ESA Logistika is a source of inspiration for others, because exploring and, where appropriate, entering new markets with new and innovative services is, so to speak, part of its DNA. “A typical example is reverse logistics services for e-shops. This was a new area for us, and two years after acquiring a specialized company, it has become one of our most important businesses,” adds Marek Cvacka. However, this always happens after careful analysis, and when companies from new segments are acquired, they always have a certain history.
Because ESA Logistika has the most extensive experience among the European companies of the LOGISTEED Group in many areas, it now helps determine the direction of the entire group. “We are able to offer a model for standardizing the quality of most services, and delivering high quality everywhere is one of the fundamental pillars of LOGISTEED as a whole. That is why we are also working on unifying the philosophy of the Group’s companies, which is very important for mutual cooperation. We are looking for a key message in the area of quality among our best companies that is universally applicable to all our members. This philosophy must bring out the best in the entire group and reflect the customer-oriented approach that is LOGISTEED’s top priority,” says Marek Cvacka, adding: “Thanks to our corporate synergies, we can offer financially and qualitatively competitive logistics services virtually anywhere in the world. In short, we find the right solution for everyone.”
